USPFC Training Ground

Presented by ICMA-RC

Keeping in shape is a top priority for many in the public safety community and we’re here to help. Once a month, we will post a short workout video created by our athletes that you can add to your program or share it with your friends. Workouts will range from cardio to high-intensity interval training to calming yoga. If you would like to submit a video for consideration, please email STEVEN TRICARICO.

Athlete Profile

Meet Chip Buttell

Chip

This installment of our Athlete Profile series introduces us to Oxnard Police Department Senior Police Officer, Chip Buttell. Chip has been with the Oxnard Police Department for 19 years and is currently a Detective in the Major Crimes Unit.

Chip is an avid Ice Hockey fan, plays in recreational leagues several times a week, and coaches both of his kids in the sport. He is one of the captains of the VC Force Ice Hockey Team and has been competing in the Championships for ten years. “I enjoy competing at USPFC because of the camaraderie between our team and other athletes in the tournament.”

Chip strongly encourages anyone considering competing in the Championships to do so. “It’s a week away from work, a chance to compete against other public safety athletes and a chance to make lasting friendships.”

Athlete Profile

Meet Marcella Piersol

With the 2020 Championships not happening, we want to give everyone the opportunity to meet their fellow athletes. As part of our Athlete Profile series, we would like to introduce you to Marcella Piersol, a retired Lieutenant with the Los Angeles Police Department. Marcella has competed off and on throughout her entire career mostly in running events. In 2013, after turning 50, she wanted to challenge herself in a new age division and ended up setting records in the 1500 and 5000 meter run in Track & Field. This ultimately gave her the confidence to compete at the World Games in 2013 in Belfast, Ireland, which turned out to be one of her all time favorite travel experiences.
In 2019 she decided to challenge herself again by competing in cycling for the first time in San Diego; winning 2 Gold Medals.
